Background

Catherine Dukes has worked as a sex educator for the last decade in various nonprofit venues.  She currently works as a freelance sex educator contracting with several local and national organizations.   She holds a Masters degree in Public Health in Human Sexuality and is currently working on completing her Ph.D.  in Human Sexuality.

Over the course of her nonprofit career, Ms. Dukes has worked in various administrative, educator and counseling positions.  From 1999-2003, she held the position of Program Director of Rape Crisis Services of CONTACT Delaware .  She recruited, trained, and supervised volunteers and staff who responded, 24-hours per day, to crisis calls from survivors of sexual assault, their families and loved ones.  Ms. Dukes was also regularly called upon to respond to hospital emergency rooms to accompany victims of sexual assault and provide support during their medical and forensic examinations.  Catherine also served for several years as the Chair of the Sexual Assault Network of Delaware.  Prior to her work with Rape Crisis, Catherine held the position of Program Coordinator of the Superior Court Adult Drug Court Program at SODAT Delaware, Inc. and also worked as an Educator at the Bayard House, a shelter for pregnant teens and women.

In her career, Catherine has thoroughly enjoyed her work in counseling, program management and teaching.  In addition to providing regular presentations for several years around the topics of sexual assault and domestic violence, she has also trained professionals, volunteers, and other audiences in various mental health-related topics as crisis intervention, suicide prevention, caring confrontation, HIV / STD prevention and a range of sexuality-related topics including sensitivity and cultural diversity awareness.

Catherine is a certified member of the American College of Sexologists and received her Masters in Public Health in Human Sexuality from the Institute for Advanced Study of Human Sexuality in San Francisco, CA.  She is a PhD candidate and is undertaking research in the area of women's sexuality and body image.
